What exactly does “direct to consumer” actually mean? For product providers, it means bypassing their usual advice-based distribution and engaging directly with the end customer. For distributors, it means offering a remote, execution-only channel – either instead of, or as well as, an advice-based channel. And for a few, it means delivering advice remotely, by phone or internet, without face-to-face contact. But whatever D2C means, it’s big news at the moment. Online platforms will play a major part. How important is the new D2C generation? And are consumers ready for all this?
