In the latest ‘next generation marketing’ debate we need to consider how to revive, or at least keep alive, the success of telephone sales as well as explore effective alternatives which create the kind of customer interaction that can drive valuable conversations in the 21st century.
In correcting the telesales ‘crimes’ of the past, using the telephone to sell well and sell what is relevant to the 40% of British households still accepting our calls, we may keep the telesales channel in use; maybe even as a preferred sales option. Then, following our customers channel preference and in utilising on-line chat, we may have the next best ‘human’ interaction with our customers and potentially the next best substitute to the telephone.
