Now that sex and age cannot be used to model risk, the ability to observe consumers and price risk on their unique behaviours is already here. Telematics uses available technology to track and monitor consumer behaviour in their cars. Hence Pay-As-You-Go insurance – to reward ‘better’ drivers with lowers premiums, and vice versa. And Young Driver policies that make insurance (and therefore driving) affordable for good behaviour. What would the future look like if all new cars were equipped with the box as standard ? Is this the future for motor insurance ? And what are the implications for fraudulent claims, claims farming and road safety ?
