The Government’s mortgage indemnity NewBuy scheme has started to have an impact, although some might argue it is designed more to stimulate the construction industry in the middle of a damaging recession, than genuinely improve home ownership or address the UK’s chronic housing shortage. Paul Smee, Director General of the CML, presents his updated interpretation of the Government’s initiatives, plus his view on alternative strategies and how the mortgages industry itself can help to influence Government thinking and policy going forward.
We also learn about Self-Build as a component of the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework.
