Generation Y, comparable in size to the Baby Boomers, is one of the largest generations in history, a population spanning age 9 to 30. These young people may be on the edge of private banking radar today, but as they inherit $41 trillion (in the U.S. alone) in the largest wealth transfer in history, they will fast come into focus. Financial institutions need to ramp up awareness of this critical market now to create strategies and secure brands for a future that will otherwise put assets that may have been in place for generations––as well as potential new acquisitions––at risk.
