James Edsberg is a partner at Gulland Padfield, the award-winning management consulting firm to the Banking and Investment Management sector.

He works with some of the world’s leading financial firms to help them become institutionally client focused and to improve their performance, operations and profitability as a result.

His projects help organisations improve client-related aspects of their business strategy including the shaping and launching new propositions, performance improvement programmes, best practice institutional Account Management and client acquisition strategies. He has helped firms to engage client-facing and back office staff in the mapping and delivery of a differentiated client service experience.

James is the author of the Client Centric Index www.clientcentricindex.com, the world’s first on-line diagnostic to help financial institutions to benchmark and prioritise actions to become more client focused as organisations. Many leading financial firms have used the diagnostic and its associated programmes.

James also has experience at Board level in shaping and rolling out transformation client-related programmes. In 2011-12, he was appointed as Chief Client Officer and Managing Director of LCHClearnet, the clearing division of the London Stock Exchange. He led a 12-month project to help the business to adopt a new approach to client strategy towards the world’s major investment banks and exchanges.

James regularly comments on issues relating to the financial services and services sectors for the BBC (Radio 4’s Today programme, Radio5-Live ‘Wake up to Money’ programme, BBC TV News), Bloomberg, CNN and CNBC (Squawkbox). His analysis and commentary on the financial and professional services sectors has been covered in the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, the Sunday Times, and The Times.

James has an MBA from INSEAD. He is a business mentor for the Prince’s Trust.

James led Gulland Padfield’s consulting team that won the UK Management Consultancies Association/ Times Newspaper Award in 2014 for the firm’s work in Client Strategy in the services sector. In 2015, Gulland Padfield won an award at the global consulting awards for its Client Strategy work with Financial Institutions. Also in 2015, James was acknowledged for his ‘outstanding thought leadership and contribution to the European Wealth Management industry’ at the 2015 Wealth Briefing Awards.
